Pinewood & LEGO Derby

Children of all ages – including adults – are invited to West Lawn UMC’s first Pinewood & LEGO Derby on Saturday, November 19 in our Community Center. From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm contestants will have an opportunity to race their pinewood derby car and/or LEGO car down our three-lane, top-notch racetrack. While the competition will be friendly, no trophies or awards will be earned at this event.

Don’t worry about shopping for a car because our church has a limited number of complete derby kit cars that include a precut, unfinished car, that comes with wheels and axles. No cutting or power tools necessary! The only thing that it needs to be race-ready is some slight assembly (attaching the axles with wheels to the body – takes about one minute) and your decorating… you can paint it, color it with markers, add stickers, the choice is yours! The car styles available to purchase for $10 from Pastor Chris or Kelly Rismiller are a funny car, roadster, bandit coupe, and sling dragster. You are welcome to buy and build your own car elsewhere and bring it to the derby. $10 for a pinewood derby car is a great deal!

Do you have a vintage Pinewood derby car from yesteryear? Have a hotrod that sped down the tracks decades ago? Want to relive those glory days? Dust off the wheels and bring it to the derby!

And there’s more! A LEGO racecar can be built and sent down the same track as the pinewood derby cars. The only thing is, LEGO racecars need a special chassis to operate on the track; unfortunately, LEGO wheels will not work, sorry. You can purchase the LEGO chassis for $10 from Pastor Chris or Kelly Rismiller as well.

Pinewood derby kits and LEGO chassis are limited; it is recommended to get them from Chris or Kelly before the day of the event. To secure your kit and/or chassis, register for the event now!

It’s not just a race day at West Lawn UMC, it’s a chili contest day as well – same time, same place. Come to race, or watch, and be a contestant or a taster/judge.
