Job Overview
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for creating, organizing, and maintaining clear, consistent, and engaging communications for West Lawn UMC. This role supports worship, ministries, events, and church-wide initiatives through print, digital, and written communication.
This position works collaboratively with pastors, staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers to prepare materials such as worship bulletins, newsletters, announcement slides, graphics, website and app updates, social media content, promotional materials, signage, and other communication pieces as needed. The ideal person for this role is creative, organized, detail-oriented, comfortable with technology, and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Typical Work Week
This is a 24 hours per week part-time position, scheduled Tuesday through Friday, 9:00 AM–3:00 PM. The Communications Coordinator is expected to work primarily in the church office to allow for regular collaboration with pastors, staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
 
Responsibilities
  • The Communications Coordinator supports the church’s internal and external communications through print, digital, and written materials. Key responsibilities include:
  • Prepare worship bulletins, announcement slides, worship graphics, and other materials for Sunday services, special services, funerals, and weddings.
  • Create, edit, format, and distribute church communications, including newsletters, ministry publications, flyers, posters, forms, booklets, and other promotional materials.
  • Maintain and update digital communication platforms, including the church website, app notifications, and social media accounts.
  • Support church-wide branding, and design consistency across printed materials, digital content, signage, letterhead, graphics, and external communications.
  • Coordinate photography and visual storytelling for church events, ministries, missions, and promotional use.
  • Assist with special reports, press releases, church directory updates, seasonal mailings, campus signage, and other communication-related administrative needs.

  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and good judgment in all church communications and office interactions.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with pastors, staff, ministry leaders, volunteers, and congregation members.
  • Receive feedback and revision requests in a constructive manner.
  • Demonstrate accuracy, organization, and attention to detail while managing communication deadlines.
  • Represent the church well through external communications, printed materials, digital platforms, and social media.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and appropriate to the role.

Qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly, accurately, and professionally.
  • Demonstrated creativity and ability to create clear, attractive, and effective graphic design materials with attention to layout, visual consistency, and communication.
  • Experience with Canva or similar design platforms preferred.
  • Experience with Constant Contact or similar email marketing platforms preferred.
  • Experience with Adobe Acrobat or similar tools for creating, editing, and managing PDF documents preferred.
  • Proficiency with computers and common office software, including Microsoft Office products such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technology, programs, and communication platforms.
  • Comfortable working with user-friendly website and app platforms. Coding experience is not required; the church’s website and app tools are drag-and-drop based.
  • Experience with social media platforms, email newsletters, websites, apps, or other digital communication tools preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with pastors, staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
