Father, Forgive Them - Pastor Tom (2.18.24)

When Jesus is making statements from the cross, what does it tell us about him and these words he has left behind? When Jesus prays, “Father, forgive them…” who is them? “Father, forgive them…” Implies that those for whom Jesus is seeking forgiveness have done something sinful. What is the sin of those people, “them” identified in the previous question? Jesus asked the Father for forgiveness for “them” while they were actively still sinning against him. Do you think God answered Jesus’ prayer? God’s forgiveness has already been given. Have you accepted his grace? If not, what will it take to do that? Jesus is our King and we submit ourselves to him. In doing that, we strive to be more like him every day. Are you forgiving the way Jesus taught us to forgive? Is grace part of your daily living? Do you demand justice more than you offer mercy? Lent is a 40-day period of self-examination. During this time discern how you can follow Jesus more closely.
