What is Angel Tree?

The Angel Tree offers you the chance to provide a bit of the joy of Christmas to a child separated from their parent who is incarcerated. It is easy to make our families happy and provide our children with their heart’s desire. How much more meaningful it is to do this for another child facing an uncertain holiday season?

Look for the Angel Tree in the narthex beginning Sunday, November 13. There will be nametags belonging to children living in Berks County who have a parent incarcerated in our local prison. Each tag will be tied with a ribbon of pink or blue to make it easy to identify the boys and girls. The tag will contain a number which indicates the family, the child’s name, age, sizes and other gift ideas. Please be sure to register the name you selected on the registration sheet where you will find a space for your name and phone number next to the child’s name and family number. Then have fun shopping for the special gifts for this child. If you do not care to shop and still want to help out, contributions can be made to purchase bibles which we include as a gift to each family. Please note “Angel Tree” in your giving.

Frequently people ask “How much should I spend?” What would you do for your own child or grandchild? Clothing and an item from their wish list make Christmas morning wonderful for these children because this may be the only gift they receive. What makes this gift exceptionally nice is that it was provided because of their incarcerated parent’s request. You will be able to serve two people by providing this simple gift, the parent and the child.
Please return your wrapped gift to the tree by noon on Sunday, November 27 with the tag you selected securely attached to your wrapped gifts. At noon we will sort the gifts in the Community Center and prepare them for the families to receive at the party the following Saturday. If you have any questions or would like to volunteer contact Alice Moyer at 610-670-7633.

CALLING ALL COOKIE BAKERS Your homemade Christmas cookies have long been a favorite at the Angel Tree Party. Would you be willing to help us out again this year? Your donations can be dropped off during the week of November 27. Please be sure to label them “Angel Tree.” Please leave a message for Alice Moyer at 610-670-7633 if you are able to help.

ANGEL TREE PARTY 2022 The Angel Tree Party returns to West Lawn UMC on Saturday, December 3 from 9am – 12pm. The party will not be as large as in past years and will be only one session. Our guests will be greeted with crafts, refreshments and a visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Volunteers are needed. Friday, December 2 at 6 pm we begin by decorating the Community Center. This is also the time that we build 200 gingerbread houses. Come prepared to get messy. Christmas trees will need to be decorated with an assortment of plush in Santa’s corner for the children.

Then, Saturday morning at 8:30 am we get ready to greet our guests. We will need your help from traffic control to gingerbread house assistance, craft helpers, and clean up at 11:30 am. See the Sunday bulletin for sign up or contact Alice at amoyer140@gmail.com or call 610-670-7633.
